Jen Mieras files to run for CCSD School Board for District 7
Charleston, SC — Monday, July 18th — Today at the Charleston County Board of Elections office, Jen Mieras filed to run for election to Charleston County School District Board of Trustees for District 7. “Charleston deserves world-class public education, and I am ready to fight for it. As our children thrive, so will our community.”
Mieras most recently served as board chair at Orange Grove Charter School, completing her second term June 30 of this year. Prior to this work, she was employed by Discovery Channel and as a gover
nment contractor, where she fine-tuned her expertise as a leader in financial and project management. She currently works as a consultant for various local and national organizations focused on financial management, building efficiencies, and communication.
Mieras stated, “The world and our community are changing quickly, and we need innovative strategies to ensure every child has equitable opportunity and access to a world-class, life-relevant public education. Educators and mental health experts need better resources to meet the needs of the whole child. CCSD is a billion-dollar, taxpayer-funded enterprise, and it needs people who will ask the tough questions, who understand the intersection of programs and finances, and who are well-versed in change management. I understand the urgency of the situation.”
The oldest daughter of a math teacher and public servant, Mieras grew up in Rockville, Md., attending public school from kindergarten through university. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of arts in communications. Mieras and her husband, Matthew, have two children, a son who attends Orange Grove Charter, and a daughter who will attend Charleston County School of the Arts in August. Mieras and her family have resided in District 7 of West Ashley for more than 15 years.
Mieras was joined at her filing by her youngest sister, a public school administrator; her mother, a retired teacher and administrator; her father, a longtime public servant; as well as her niece and two children.
